About Us: Our Responsibilities
Our Responsibilities
Made up of representatives from around the business, Dennis Publishing's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) group is tasked with evaluating the company's ethical and social responsibilities. It conducts an ongoing audit of building services and suppliers, as well as stimulating corporate and individual engagement with the local community, national and international charities, and NFP organisations. Open to all employees, the group is constantly looking for new ways to get employees involved in the issues that matter to them.
Recent activity includes:
- The change to energy-efficient light bulbs, lighting systems and water-saving devices throughout Dennis properties
- Recycling bins for paper and DVDs / CDs
- A Ride to Work scheme to encourage bike use
- Company sponsorship of £100 to each employee involved in charity events (FSID, RSPCC, British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research are recent beneficiaries)
- A Give As You Earn scheme for all employees, which gives nominated charities a substantial tax benefit
- The majority of paper is purchased from the James McNaughton Paper Group which is fully FSC and PEFC certified, and contains a high percentage of certified and traceable fibre
- Printing partners ensure that all waste, wherever practical, is recycled. This includes ink, plates, unprinted paper, printed paper, cardboard, dust and broken pallets
Past campaigns have included:
- In 2005, PC Pro, one of our major IT brands, launched a 'Switch IT Off' campaign to encourage all users of PCs, printers and peripherals to switch off standby modes whenever possible. We used our influence to save kilowatts of power
- In 2007, we centralised over 90% of our production into a single site to reduce transport costs and wastage
- Felix Dennis, our Chairman and well-known philanthropist and planter of trees, has funded the planting of hundreds of thousands of trees in the Warwickshire countryside
